Without prayer
my words are empty air
Without silence
I bellow in the wind
Without praise
my anger turns to bitterness
Without passion
my blood runs wasted cold
Without humility
endurance loses its endeavour
Without return
disquiet finds no rest
Without love
my protest finds no purpose
With God
all things are possible

Rosalind C Hughes is a priest and author living near the shores of Lake Erie. After growing up in England and Wales, and living briefly in Singapore, she is now settled in Ohio.
