Is it joy?

Is it joy
or curiosity that binds them;
astonishment in discovering
that God
has made another, unalike,
incomprehensible if somewhat
familiar?

Is it joy,
the flick of the ear,
the tic of the tail,
a frisson of fur filled
with static
electricity,
the stuff of life?

Who would not enjoy
the vast and tiny details
of God’s imagination;
the curious creations
of Love?

I am participating in a 20-day Evangelism Challenge designed by the Revd Dr Patricia Lyons for and with the Diocese of Ohio (although I don’t promise to post every day!). Today’s prompt for drawing closer to God: What in the past 24 hours has given you joy?

About Rosalind C Hughes

Rosalind C Hughes is a priest and author living near the shores of Lake Erie. After growing up in England and Wales, and living briefly in Singapore, she is now settled in Ohio. She serves an Episcopal church just outside Cleveland. Rosalind is the author of A Family Like Mine: Biblical Stories of Love, Loss, and Longing , and Whom Shall I Fear? Urgent Questions for Christians in an Age of Violence, both from Upper Room Books. She loves the lake, misses the ocean, and is finally coming to terms with snow.
