Seasonal allergies

(because it’s not all resurrection and roses)

My body defies resurrection,
denies the rites of spring,
answers the eruption of blossom with
its own eructations of tears.

Defeated, it turns toward the tomb,
rolls the seal across the doorway,
countering life’s opening bid
with fine filters and linen cloths.
